Memorial to the victims of communism to be erected in Tallinn

Planned memorial to the victims of communism in Tallinn, by Koit Ojaliiv.

The Estonian government decided at Thursday’s cabinet meeting to proceed with the preparations for establishing a memorial to the victims of communism.
The memorial will be built as a comprehensive landscape architectural solution in Maarjamäe, in Pirita district of the Estonian capital. The contest to design a memorial was organized in 2011, which was won by Koit Ojaliiv, with a work called “Mälutulbad” (“Columns of Memory”.)

The memorial will be based on the winning design, but new architectural contest to design the landscape around the memorial and adjascent monument will be organized.

The memorial is expected to be completed by the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Estonia in 2018.
